Venue and overview of meetings

The main venue for the meetings and plenary sessions was “Teatro Maria Sylvia Nunes,” a modern, theater-style auditorium located within “Estação das Docas,” a commercial center recently created within a renovated shipping warehouse on Belém’s historic waterfront adjacent to the famous “Ver-o-Peso” market. Estação das Docas is located at Boulevard Castilhos França, 707, Campina, Belém 66010-020. In addition to a panoramic waterfront view and gift shops, Estação das Docas also offers numerous restaurants, bars and snack shops at different price levels.

Adjacent to the theater is the “Boulevard de Feiras e Exposições” (Boulevard for Fairs and Expositions), where Fox Bookstore of Belém will host a book fair of Brazilian titles in social sciences throughout the meetings. The poster session, a catered dinner with guest speaker, and a special musical performance featuring Mundo Mambo were held in the Boulevard on Saturday, June 25th.

The meetings included a welcome for SALSA members at the Goeldi Museum’s downtown location on Wednesday night, June 22nd to inaugurate a new exhibit celebrating the Goeldi’s contributions to social sciences.

Plenary sessions were held Saturday June 25 at Estação das Docas. Special evening round table discussions also occured there (see program). Parallel sessions on Thursday June 23, Friday June 24, and Sunday June 26 were held at Estação das Docas and at auditoria in the Goeldi’s downtown location (Av. Magalhães Barata 376 — Nazaré) and at its Research Campus (Av. Perimetral 1901 — Terra Firme).

The SALSA association meeting occured on Sunday afternoon, June 26th.
