Dominique Buchillet In Memoriam: 1951-2018

Dominique Buchillet, esteemed scholar and ardent Amerindian rights’ activist, passed away on June 9, 2018, at the age of 67. Dominique earned her Ph.D at the University of Paris Nanterre in 1983, and worked until retirement for the IRD (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement). She was one of the world’s leading experts in northwest Amazonian anthropology, with special knowledge of (and affection for) Desana people. In the later years of her career, she had also worked in south-east Asia. Her main fields of expertise were medical anthropology, shamanism and epidemiology. Judging by tributes posted on other sites, I will not be the only one to miss her:
