SALSA 2023 Elections for the Board of Directors (10-13-23)

SALSA ElectionsSALSA 2023 Elections for the Board of Directors

13 October 2023

Dear Colleagues,

SALSA is an entirely volunteer-led professional organization with various committees, roles and positions that are critical to our continued success. There are many ways to participate and get to know colleagues from different parts of the world. Diverse perspectives and varied energies enliven and animate our society in ways that foster ethical research and information exchange.  If you are interested in becoming more involved, we would love to hear from you and find ways for you to participate more actively in SALSA!

Participating in committees is a great way to get to know the organization and other people who share interests in the peoples and cultures of Lowland South America. SALSA’s standing committees include: the Public Issues and Actions Committee (PIAC), the Publications Committee, and selection committees for the Norm and Sibby Whitten Research Award and Publication  Award and the Steven Lee Rubenstein Memorial Scholarship. Other roles include Webmaster and Social Media Coordinator. We urgently need someone to assume the role of Social Media Coordinator to post SALSA updates and announcements on Social Media.

SALSA is currently developing a slate of officers for upcoming elections to take place later in 2023 for terms beginning in January 2024. We seek candidates for President-Elect and At-Large Board Members. Candidates for President-elect should have significant leadership experience and previous involvement within the organization. The term for President-elect is 3.5 years, followed by four years as SALSA President. Candidates for the At-large Board Member position should have an interest in the organization’s decision making and processes, and a commitment to SALSA.  All board positions require participation in board discussions and decisions via email and periodic Zoom meetings, and the biennial SALSA conferences.  The term for At-Large Board Members is three years.

If you would like to get involved in committee work or other roles, or if you would like to be considered for one of the elected positions, please send an expression of interest (1 page maximum) to the Nominating Committee by October 25, at salsa.nominations2023@gmail.com

Self-nominations are welcome. Nominations of others are also welcome but must include the nominee’s written consent.. Nominees and nominators must be current SALSA members.

If you are interested in learning more about how you can become involved with the organization, or have other ideas, please contact President Laura Graham at laura-graham@uiowa.edu.
